Singapore Philosophy

AE Singapore applies AE’s philosophies with a systems-approach, integrating the disciplines of acoustics, aesthetics, component selection and calibration.

Acoustics is foundational to performance. Mohan, MD of AE South-East Asia, began by enlisting professional acoustic engineers and audio experts to build both studios from scratch. An in-house “quietness rating” was built into the acoustic design, based on how quiet a space should be for the listener to receive the utmost contrast between ‘loud’ and ‘soft’ musical passages. In demos, we intend that the listener experience an unadulterated dynamic range from low listening levels upwards, as the listening space fills with sound. Across this phase of development, expert readings of acoustic software were employed to serve the most sensitive instrument of all – the trained human ear!

Next came aesthetics, for there is a correlation between acoustics and aesthetics on the listening experience. Here, Mohan created a practical environment based on a typical domestic living space. In the overall aesthetic, there were no enhancements beyond the carefully chosen elements that combine diffusive and absorptive elements.

In the component selection, we applied the adage of ‘a chain being only as strong as its weakest link’. In the Premium studio and Lux studio, we sought to curate the best-in-class components which would complement each other. The sonic differences between both studios, can be described in terms of the scale of the performance. More than that, the Lux studio offers the most exclusive and artisanal system for living spaces.

Bringing it all together is our fastidiousness in calibration. Here are loudspeaker placement and system calibration. A loudspeaker’s ‘sound’ takes its final form from its interaction with the acoustics of the enclosing room. For AE Singapore, establishing the appropriate geometry to optimize the pressurization and dispersion of sound waves was top-priority. The expression of music in convincing ways, fell upon experts from around the world to resolve. All this too would fall short of the majesty both studios avail today, if not for the conditioning availed by the finest component supports, interfaces, accessories: all tuned to push the boundaries of the art.
